Scabbling
Scabbling is a process of concrete preparation where the surface of the concrete is reduced or textured. This might be prior to the surface being coated. The coating may be additional concrete or an anti-slip layer. Normally surveyed if levels of removals are crucial, it can be carried out using various machines to accommodate the site conditions and your requirments.
Scabbling the surface is carried out using electric (3-Phase 415v 32amp) Brokk or small petrol/diesel machines. These are self-propelled and can be used with or without dust control measures.
In open areas where a neat edge is required it is usual to work with a template so that the machine can work against a fixed guide. When working between walls, smaller hand operated machines can be used to get close to corners or edges.
The most widely recognised Surface Preparation method, typically described as a Scabbler, Planer, Groover or Scarifier. Common uses include:
- Reducing screeds and levels, often referred to as Planing
- Texturing & Grooving surfaces, often to increase Slip Resistance
- Removal of coatings, line markings & membrane
- Removal of laitence & surface deposits, including ice in cold stores
