Avoid Injuries With These Diamond Drilling Safety Guidelines

One of the most important things for any diamond drilling contractor is to strictly adhere to the health and safety guidelines of the niche. Preventive safety management at a worksite will help you avoid physical injuries during the projects. Without further ado, let’s find out what preventive steps you need to perform to ensure complete safety during diamond drilling procedures.

Things You Need To Inspect Before Operation

  • Check if your diamond drilling machine is unplugged and turned off.
  • Ensure the vacuum seal isn’t damaged or worn out. Get it replaced if required.
  • Make sure the power supply cord has no damage. If you found the plug is damaged or has any other trouble like a missing ground prong, replace it before you use the machine the next time.
  • Check the diamond drilling equipment thoroughly and see if it has any sort of damage, modification or missing part that can make the drilling operation unsafe. Don’t use such equipment until you get the issues fixed.
  • Proper lubrication is one of the most important practices one needs to consider for safe and efficient diamond drilling operations. Lubricate the drilling equipment as per manufacturer guideline.
  • Make sure the diamond drill bits and other accessories you use with your drilling equipment are specifically designed for it and also suitable to your exact project specifications. Using wrong tools and accessories can result in poor quality deliverables and an accident.
  • It is essential to clean the controls and handles regularly. Presence of dirt and grease on to parts can make you lose grip during the drilling procedure and lead to a fatal accident.
  • Never begin a diamond core drilling operation with blunt blades. So, check your cutting blade edge before you begin with the drilling operation and replace it if found not sharp enough. Worn out or dull cutting edges can lead to broken tool.

Things You Need To Follow During The Drilling Procedure

  • The diamond drilling equipment is used to make openings of different sizes in concrete (both plain and reinforced concrete), asphalt, granite and masonry. You must follow manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines while operating the machine. And don’t use the equipment for any other application that it isn’t designed for or else it can lead to a physical injury. Don’t try to make any mechanical design changes in the equipment.
  • It is very important to ensure that your hand gloves and clothing are tight enough while performing diamond drilling at a job site. It is strongly recommended that you wear leather gloves. If any part of your clothing is captured by the equipment, it can result in a fatal accident.
  • You need to be extra cautious while drilling holes in the floors. Take preventive measures for the protection of everything that exist under that floor, whether it is humans or objects. Debris can fall down once the hole is drilled.
  • Always remember to keep your hands, specifically fingers, away from the drilling diamond bits. This is essential to ensure you don’t end up cutting or injuring your finger.
  • Anchor your diamond drilling machine stand properly at a secure place. This will help avoid serious physical injury and prevent damage to the diamond drill bits.
  • Make sure to operate the drilling machine at the recommended feed rate and speed to avoid excessive load on the motor and prevent injury. Exceeding speed or giving additional force can make you lose control over the machine and pose a potential safety risk.
