CA Drillers were appointed by Erith Contractors Ltd to deliver specialist saw cutting and diamond drilling services as part of the demolition works at The Bermondsey Project – Former Biscuit Factory site. The project required precision cutting and drilling solutions to support the safe and efficient demolition of existing structures while preparing the site for future redevelopment.
With extensive experience in controlled demolition techniques, CA Drillers played a crucial role in ensuring the works were completed safely, efficiently, and in line with strict structural requirements.
The demolition of the Former Biscuit Factory required a wide range of specialist cutting and drilling operations to facilitate structural removal and site preparation.
One of the most significant aspects of the project involved dowel hole drilling, where CA Drillers successfully drilled 7,914 dowel holes at foundation level into concrete pads. These holes were essential for structural reinforcement and ensured that the groundwork was prepared for future construction phases.
CA Drillers also carried out extensive track sawing operations to cut reinforced concrete slabs. This technique allowed for the precise creation of openings and structural modifications required for the demolition plan.
To remove heavy structural elements efficiently, wire sawing techniques were used to reduce pile caps and pad foundations. This method provided controlled cutting of large concrete sections while minimising disruption to surrounding structures.
Precision beam and column cutting was carried out using specialist saw-cutting equipment. This process ensured the safe and controlled removal of key structural components during the demolition phase.
CA Drillers also performed high-level concrete removal, utilising powered access equipment to safely reach elevated areas. The work involved saw-cutting and breaking overhanging concrete nib sections, requiring skilled execution to maintain both accuracy and safety standards.
As part of the site redevelopment preparation, CA Drillers carried out saw cutting to facilitate new underground drainage systems. These works allowed the site’s infrastructure to be adapted for future construction developments.
Specialist diamond drilling was also completed to create core drill holes for BWIC (Builders’ Work in Connection) service penetrations. These openings were essential for the integration of mechanical and electrical (M&E) services within the redevelopment project.
Through the use of advanced diamond drilling and precision saw-cutting techniques, CA Drillers successfully supported the controlled demolition of the Former Biscuit Factory.
Their work ensured that all structural modifications were completed safely while preparing the site for the next stage of redevelopment. The project demonstrated CA Drillers’ expertise in delivering complex cutting and drilling solutions on large-scale demolition and regeneration projects.
The Bermondsey Project highlights the importance of specialist contractors in major demolition and redevelopment schemes. By combining precision equipment, experienced operatives, and strict safety procedures, CA Drillers delivered high-quality results that contributed to the overall success of the project.
