CA Drillers were appointed by Mace to deliver the Builder’s Work in Connection (BWIC) package at the Woolgate Exchange development. The project required a wide range of specialist construction services to support the evolving structural and mechanical requirements of the building.
As the project progressed, the scope of works expanded to include multiple specialist tasks designed to ensure the smooth progression of construction activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, precision, and structural integrity.
CA Drillers carried out a diverse range of services as part of the BWIC package, supporting both structural modifications and service installations across the site.
A key phase of the project involved soft demolition and strip-out operations. This included the removal of existing high-level beam finishes and insulation, as well as dismantling redundant rainwater pipes. These works were essential in preparing the building structure for new construction elements and service installations.
The team was responsible for forming various openings throughout the structure. This included the creation of gulley openings and installation of new gulleys, along with forming overflow openings to improve drainage efficiency within the building.
A particularly complex element of the project involved cutting approximately 110 castellations through high-level beams. These consisted of different shapes including holes, squares, and rectangular openings, carefully created to allow service routes to pass through the structure without compromising its integrity.
Within the atrium area, CA Drillers undertook steel beam polishing, ensuring that the exposed structural elements met both functional requirements and aesthetic standards of the development.
Specialist diamond drilling operations were carried out to create precise service penetrations as part of the BWIC package. These openings allowed for the installation of mechanical and electrical services while maintaining structural accuracy.
In addition, drilling works were completed to facilitate the installation of earthing pits, which are essential for electrical grounding and safety systems within the building.
CA Drillers also delivered a range of in-situ concrete works, contributing to the structural preparation of the building. This included:
Construction of gantry bases
Column encasement works
Pouring lift pit bases
These works helped reinforce the structural framework and support further stages of the construction process.
The team also undertook fabrication and installation of structural steelwork, including new beams and columns. These installations were crucial in strengthening the building structure and supporting design modifications.
To ensure structural safety during the works, back propping measures were implemented where required, providing temporary structural support throughout the construction process.
Additionally, CA Drillers carried out scabbling and planning works to prepare concrete surfaces for subsequent construction activities, ensuring precision and compliance with project specifications.
Through their wide range of specialist capabilities and commitment to quality workmanship, CA Drillers played a key role in supporting the successful delivery of the Woolgate Exchange project. Their expertise in demolition, drilling, structural works, and concrete operations ensured the project progressed efficiently while maintaining the highest construction standards.
